The Reserve Bank of India has set Rs 14,213 per unit as the premature redemption price for SGB 2019-20 Series VI, due on 30 October 2026. The price is the simple average of the IBJA 999 closing rate for 27, 28 and 29 October 2026, as RBI press release 2026-2027/1406 of 29 October 2026 states.

The Reserve Bank of India has set Rs 14,213 per unit as the premature redemption price for SGB 2019-20 Series VI, due on 30 October 2026. The figure comes from RBI press release 2026-2027/1406, dated 29 October 2026. Our IBJA 24K benchmark is Rs 1,40,054 per 10 g (PM rate of 30 Oct 2026). That is a separate figure and is not the redemption price.

What the RBI notice sets

The notice applies the scheme terms to one tranche. It cites GOI notification F.No. 4(7)-B(W&M)/2019 dated 30 September 2019. Under that notification, premature redemption may be permitted after the fifth year from the date of issue, on a date when interest is payable. Series VI was issued on 30 October 2019, so the notice names 30 October 2026 as the next premature redemption date.

How the Rs 14,213 figure is calculated

The notice gives the price, not the working. We checked it against our stored IBJA 999 rows for the three named days. The PM session rows average to the notice's figure, which suggests the notice uses the PM session as the closing rate. The notice does not name the session, so check IBJA's published closing for those days if you need the exact basis.

For context, the table above shows the last ten sessions in our IBJA record. The redemption price uses only the three named days, so the other sessions do not enter the calculation.

Who the notice affects

The notice concerns holders of the SGB 2019-20 Series VI tranche who are eligible for premature redemption on 30 October 2026. It gives no details for other tranches or for new issues. Each tranche has its own date and its own averaging days, so an earlier SGB notice, such as our note on Series V, does not apply to this tranche.

SGBs are denominated in grams of gold. For 10 units, the redemption value before interest is 10 x Rs 14,213, which is Rs 1,42,130. The notice does not state interest, so this figure excludes it.

What to do

  1. Check the series name and issue date on your SGB record. Series VI was issued on 30 October 2019.
  2. Confirm that the premature redemption date is 30 October 2026 and that your tranche is the one named in the notice.
  3. Multiply your units by Rs 14,213 to get the redemption value before interest.
  4. Ask the bank or depository that holds your bond how and when the redemption amount will be credited. The notice does not cover that process.
  5. Keep the RBI press release with your records, and use the daily IBJA rates page only for the current benchmark, not for this price.

The redemption price uses three named days and the notice's rule. It is not the IBJA rate for today, and it is not a market price.

What has not changed

The notice applies the existing scheme terms to this tranche and does not change them. It does not set the interest rate, and the price above excludes interest. For other tranches or new issues, check rbi.org.in for the current status.

Common mistakes

  • Using today's IBJA rate as the redemption price. The notice averages three named days, and the result can differ from any single day's rate.
  • Adding interest to Rs 14,213 without checking how interest is paid on your tranche.
  • Assuming the price applies to another series. Each tranche has its own date and price.

RBI press release 2026-2027/1406, dated 29 October 2026, sets Rs 14,213 per unit for premature redemption due on 30 October 2026. The price is the simple average of the IBJA 999 closing price for 27, 28 and 29 October 2026.

When is SGB 2019-20 Series VI due for premature redemption?
