How it works
The calculator uses the first stored close on or after the start date and the last close on or before the end date. Index levels are price indices, so dividends are not included.
Formula
Return = end close / start close - 1
Frequently asked questions
How is index return calculated?
Divide the later close by the earlier close and subtract 1.
Does Nifty return include dividends?
No. The Nifty 50 price index excludes dividends; NSE also publishes total return indices.
Where does Sensex data come from?
From Yahoo Finance daily bars, because BSE's own files are not reachable from our server.
