IBJA does not publish rates on Saturdays, Sundays and its listed holidays, so the latest working day's rate is shown.
Changing the karat updates the rate per gram; you can also type your jeweller's board rate. The rate is the IBJA benchmark and does not include any city premium.
How the price is calculated
- Metal value = weight in grams x rate per gram.
- Making charges = a percentage of the metal value, a rate per gram, or a flat amount, as your jeweller quotes it.
- GST = 3% of (metal value + making charges). On jewellery sold to a customer GST is 3% of the total value, whether the making charge is shown separately or not.
- Final price = metal value + making charges + GST.
Example at today's rate: 100 g of silver at ₹220.83/g is ₹22,083. With 8% making the subtotal is ₹23,850, and with 3% GST the total is ₹24,565.

Frequently asked questions
How is GST calculated on silver jewellery?
GST is 3% of the total transaction value, which includes making charges, whether or not the making charge is shown separately on the bill (GST sectoral FAQ on gems and jewellery).
Are making charges fixed?
No. Making charges are set by each jeweller and depend on the design and the work involved. They may be quoted as a percentage of the metal value, a rate per gram or a flat amount, so the calculator supports all three.
Which rate does the calculator use?
It starts with today's IBJA benchmark rate (1 October 2026). You can overwrite it with the board rate your jeweller quotes.
