How it works

The CBIC Sectoral FAQ on gems and jewellery says GST is payable at 3% of the total transaction value of jewellery, whether the making charge is shown separately or not (Q7). When you give your own gold to a registered job worker, the job worker pays GST at 5% on the job charges only (Q8).

Formula

Jewellery: GST = 3% x (gold value + making); job work: GST = 5% x job charges
