How it works
Most percentage questions are one of three types. "What is 15% of 2,400?" multiplies. "What percent is 360 of 2,400?" divides. "By what percent did 2,000 rise to 2,400?" compares the change with the starting value. The calculator answers all three for the same pair of numbers.
Formula
A% of B = A x B / 100; A as % of B = A / B x 100; change = (B - A) / A x 100
- A percent change is always measured against the starting value, so a 20% rise followed by a 20% fall does not bring you back to the start.
