How it works

Each instalment is invested at the start of the month and compounds monthly at one twelfth of the annual rate, the convention used by most SIP calculators. The chart shows how the gap between value and amount invested widens with time.

Market-linked funds do not earn a steady return; months of losses are normal. Use the output to compare scenarios, not as an expected result.

Formula

FV = P x [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] x (1 + i), with i = annual rate / 12 and n = months

Frequently asked questions

How does a SIP calculator work?

It treats each monthly instalment as a deposit that compounds at the assumed rate until the end of the period, then adds them up.

Is the SIP return guaranteed?

No. The rate is your assumption. Actual returns of market-linked funds vary and can be negative.

Should I use 12% as the return?

Any single rate is a guess. Try several rates, for example 8, 10 and 12 percent, to see a range.
